Once the planning phase of the research project is complete, relevant data sources have been identified and laws and regulations have been considered, the next step is to order the data. Early dialogue with data holders reduces the risk of delays and the need for supplementary information.

Many data holders offer information support, checklists and descriptions of the disclosure process on their websites.

Once the project has obtained access to the data, the research principal is responsible for ensuring that it is managed in accordance with the requirements and rules identified during the planning phase.
