Managing data
After the data has been disclosed, the work shifts to managing and protecting the data. This section describes the research principal's responsibility for this.
After the data has been disclosed, the research principal is responsible for how the data is managed. If the data constitutes personal data, current data protection regulations must be followed. For instance, the research principal must ensure secure handling of the data, limited use of the data for approved purposes and protection of the privacy of registered persons throughout the whole process.
At this stage, the project planning and the data management plan are put into practice. As a researcher, it is important to follow the research principal's guidelines and procedures for data management.
If any uncertainties arise during data management, it is a good idea to check with the support functions that are often available at research principals, such as legal and security experts. It is also important to involve the data protection officer if personal data is being handled in the research project.
